The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety, effectiveness, and maintenance of effect of a study drug in people with depression.

You may be eligible to participate if you:

  • Are 18–74 years old
  • Have been diagnosed with depression
  • Have taken antidepressants in the past that didn't work well for you
  • Currently taking an antidepressant but still have symptoms of depression

If you are interested, the study doctors and staff will perform certain tests to assess whether you can participate in the study.

The study consists of part 1 and part 2. In part 1, you will receive the study drug or placebo (contains no active drug) for 6 weeks. If you complete part 1, you will also have the option to participate in part 2. In part 2, you may receive the study drug for up to 16 weeks or more.

Eligible patients may receive medical care needed during the study and study medication at no cost. The study does not pay for other medical care or topical medications needed to support your daily care.
